Logline

A logline is a simple sentence or short paragraph to describe the plot of the film.

An effective logline should contain:
  • A description of the protagonist
  • The setting
  • Conflict (What the problem is)
  • Irony (Some sort of major twist)
For example, this is shown in the logline for the film Brick;
A teenage loner pushes his way into the underworld of a high school crime ring to investigate the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend.

Using these rules and the logline for Brick to help us, my group and I came up with a logline for our thriller:

The struggle of a young detective investigating the killing spree of a mentally ill orphan only to find she's a lot more dangerous than he'd imagined.
